The fire at Murfitt Industries, off Wisbech Road, near Littleport, began on Friday afternoon, with a plume of smoke visible for several miles.

Spokeswoman Emma Cousins said crews had left the site but expected the fire to burn for several days.

Scientist from Oxfordshire have carried out tests on the toxicity of the smoke and deemed it not dangerous, she added.

"Due to the compact nature of the tyres and the vast area in which they cover a decision has been made not to take any fire-fighting action," said Ms Cousins.
